Mental Health Counselors
Mental Health Counselors work with individuals, families, and groups to improve their emotional health and prevent problems from getting worse. They listen closely, ask detailed questions, and use methods that have been tested by research and shown to work—such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or motivational interviewing—to help people handle stress, addictions, family conflict, and other challenges. They also lead programs in schools and communities, coordinate with teachers, doctors, or probation officers, and adjust treatment plans over time based on each client’s progress and safety needs.
